Joelene and I first met at the press release of the Musgrave Bridal Fair in 2013, again for the press release of the La Lucia Bridal fair in 2014 and we have crossed paths many times since then. It was refreshing for you to have me representing Oh Happy Day as a sponsor for the La Lucia Bridal Fair Competition this year so have decided to Interview Joelene from Oh Happy Day.
Joelene from Oh Happy Day is a newly-wed herself, having tied the knot to Stefan on 28 June last year at Calderwood Hall. Her inspiration for Oh Happy Day came from being the creative force behind sourcing and designing her own wedding. You may not know it, but she has also been chosen as one of 12 brides selected out of a whopping 3000 entrants for the final of the SA Weddings Bride of the Year competition. She is also the only bride who hails from Kzn! The final takes place next month, at the Bay Hotel in Camps Bay. 1: Tell us about Oh Happy Day..
Oh Happy Day is a wedding styling & design service offering a creative & bespoke planning experience. We assist the bridal couple with as much or as little as they require, and these services cover a variety of needs: from engagements and proposals, bespoke creative services, admin & guidance, on the day coordination and post wedding service offerings, to styled shoots and vow renewals! We have your every need covered, and we welcome your out-of-the-box ideas. Our calling is to make your love a celebration that is uniquely you. Your BEST day, our HAPPY heart!
2: How does “Oh happy Day” differ from other Wedding Companies?
After planning my own wedding in 2014, I realised that there was a gap in the industry. This was most prevalent in wedding planning / coordination and bringing it together with the creative side of styling a wedding. 'Oh Happy Day' bridges that gap as our offering is two-fold, but not limited creatively. My background and experience in events paired with my enthusiasm for creating bliss-filled celebrations has guided me into offering something truly unique.
Our clients are able to pick and choose what services they require and tailor-make their own package. This fresh approach to wedding planning is one that keeps the bride's needs top of mind.
3: What made you go with the name “Oh happy Day?
The name of the business is incredibly sentimental, because Oh Happy Day was named after the theme of my very own wedding. It was the core sentiment that we wanted our wedding day to echo, and it was borne out of the joy of our loved ones. This name was chosen because I want all our clients to feel as happy and as joyful on their special day, as I did on mine.
4: Tell us one of the most unforgettable moments with “Oh happy Day”?
To date, the most unforgettable moment of my time with Oh Happy Day, has been the opportunity I had to work on a styled shoot with the editor of a well-known UK based wedding blog. It was such an honour, and a dream come true! I think the best part of being in this industry though, is the pivotal role we play in making unforgettable moments for others! This isn’t just a job, it’s a calling.
5: What do you love most about this business?
Oh Happy Day has been blessed to work with some of the most talented wedding vendors in Kzn. The best part about this business is the suppliers that we work with! From venue coordinators, to DJs, photographers and videographers, to stationers and confectioners and décor hiring companies and florists – everyone we meet along the way has a greatly impacted Oh Happy Day. Personally, I believe that KZN is on the brink of a wedding revolution – there is such a dynamic team of talented, creative suppliers in our province, that KZN is stepping up to first place as a wedding destination for brides across the country… Cape Town and Joburg has nothing on us!
6: Do you have a website that couples can check out? And.. are you social?

7: Where do you see Oh happy Day in 5 years from now?
Gosh, that is such a loaded question, Jarryd! In 5 year’s time, I hope to look back and feel a strong sense of pride and satisfaction at the many, many celebrations we have been a part of, and the role we have played in putting Kzn on the “wedding map”. The best part of our industry is that it is constantly evolving – trends are changing with the seasons, and services are being reinvented, its terribly exciting, and Oh Happy Day is blessed to be a part of it. By that stage, I also see Oh Happy Day firmly established in the KZN wedding industry, and the company that brides and grooms can’t do without. Watch this space!
